Here is all of the information you need about summer dance programs at the Academy this year! Continue reading to learn more about the programs we're offering this year, or go to our registration page to find out how to register!

Why send your kids to Summer Dance programs? Summer dance classes are a great way for experienced dancers to stay in shape in between two seasons of regular dance classes. They are also the perfect opportunity for new dancers to try out different styles for a short time and find out which style they love best! Summer dance camps are a fun full-day experience of games, crafts, dancing and fun--a great way to make new friends and explore dance in a friendly, open environment. And Summer Intensives are an immersive experience for experienced dancers who are interested in improving their technique, exploring new ways to train and perform, and having fun while gaining confidence as performing artists.

Summer Dance Registration night is coming up soon, so mark your calendars, Wednesday, May 24th from 6pm-8pm! What kind of dance are you interested in this summer? The Academy is offering a wide variety of evening classes and exciting day camps for dancers of all ages and levels! See below for more info on all summer programs!

1. Under the Sea Summer Dance Camp - July 3rd-7th & August 14th-18th (ages 4-8)

Our super fun summer dance camp for children ages 4-8 will explore creative movement and foundations of ballet and contemporary dance, all through the theme of The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo! Dancers will also enjoy arts and crafts and daily outdoor play at the nearby park. No previous dance experience necessary. 9am-4pm.

This camp will be offered twice this year. Dancers may sign up for both at a discounted rate of $350/week, but keep in mind that both camps will consist of the same content.

2. Earthsteps Environmental Dance Camp (Ages 6-9 AND 10-14) - July 17th-21st

This year we will have two age groups of our Earthsteps Environmental Dance Camp. This exciting day camp introduces kids to contemporary dance foundations as well as exploring improvisation, teamwork, and performance while learning about environmental advocacy and sustainability. Ideal for the nature-loving child who is passionate about making positive changes in the world. Dancers will also have the opportunity to create arts and crafts, visit local parks each day, participate in community environmental work and activism, and give a performance at the end of the week for family and friends. No previous dance experience necessary.

Earthsteps Intro (Ages 10-14 only) - July 12th-13th

The older age group has the option of starting our Earthsteps Camp early in order to participate in additional activities and learn additional choreography for our final performance. Dancers must be registered for the full week camp July 17th-21st if they wish to join the 2 day Intro camp.

3. Wildflower Dance Arts Performance Intensive - July 31st-August 4th (ages 11+)

This intensive dance camp is the summer phase of our youth dance company, Wildflower Dance Arts. The intensive is geared towards dancers who are interested in improving their technique, artistry, and performance skills and will include classes in contemporary ballet, contemporary, and improvisation as well as rehearsals for our community performances at the end of the week. The dancers will have the opportunity to audition for solo and small group pieces as well as participating in the full company choreographies and creating some of their own work. At least two years of Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary experience and one year of Elementary/Advanced ballet experience (or equivalent) required.

4. Competitive Highland Dance Intensive - August 7th-11th (Beginner-Premier)

This half-day intensive will help competitive highland dancers train, learn new dances and skills, and prepare for the Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland Games. Open to Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Premier level dancers regardless of whether they plan to compete this summer.
